To make the most of your time in the Northern Black Forest, travel by train or by car along the scenic Schwarzwaldhochstrasse, making stops along the way to explore the wonderful nature and pretty villages. This region is full of beauty and culture, waiting for you to come and explore.

Karlsruhe

Karlsruhe is known as the gateway to the Black Forest and is one of the sunniest and warmest places in Germany. The city itself offers a wide range of places to visit, from interesting museums and beautiful gardens to the impressive palace and the fun zoo and water park. This great mixture of culture, nature and city life is loved by tourists as well as locals.

District Rastatt

But mostly, be amazed in front of the beauty of this region and make long-lasting memories here.

Dining

In southwestern Germany, many meals are influenced by nearby France or Switzerland, but you’ll find some dishes that are typical to the region. One of them is Maultaschen, which look like over-sized ravioli filled with meat and vegetables. Some say that monk’s invented this specialty to disguise their meat during lent. Meals are usually accompanied by regionally produced beer and wine.

Cafes

Cafés in the Black Forest region often double with patisseries, which makes every cobbled street filled with temptations. If you decide to give in, don't miss trying the typical Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte, a delicious cake with chocolate, whipped cream and cherries.

Shopping

Stroll down Karlsruhe’s shopping mile – Kaiserstrasse – to find department stores, boutiques, trendy shops and family-owned specialty businesses. The Post gallery mall, housed in the beautiful former main post office at Europaplatz, offers some upscale shops and cafés on three floors, while the Ettlinger Tor mall offers 130 shops, cafés and restaurants. For a more traditional shopping experience, check out one of the many open-air local markets. In the picturesque streets and the small lanes of the neo-baroque old town of Baden-Baden, numerous exclusive boutiques invite you to first-class shopping. Everyone who searches for brand products, international labels and individual antiques, jewellery and presents will find himself in the right spot.
